“Comfort Women” survivor Kim Bok-Dong is one of the strongest advocates for justice for the “comfort women” victims. For the last twenty years, she
demonstrated every Wednesday at the ‘comfort women” memorial in front of the Japanese consulate in Seoul without a break until recently when she fell ill. She is a familiar figure in the US having flown to Glendale, California twice to advocate for the successful building of the ‘comfort women” memorial in Glendale.
She spoke out most strongly against the 2015 now-defunct agreement between the former President Park Guern-Hae government and Prime Minister Abe of Japan. She even sued the Park government as one of twelve “comfort women” victims and plaintiffs demanding the S Korean government withdraw from the 2015 agreement and pay reparation to each of the CW survivors for 1 billion yen.
At her dying breath, she called Japan to sincerely apologize and urged the world to not let Japan’s government get away with the atrocities.
KAFC of Glendale will be conducting a memorial on the same date and time for Grandma Kim Bok-dong.
